For many of us, going back to school is a privilege that we take for granted. When we decided to have a Back-To-School Sale the original idea was simply to give affordable, green transportation to students heading back to schools and universities across the world. At Bustin Boards, we’ve all been there and we know first-hand what its like to live off of ramon noodles and six packs of (soda) in the mini-fridge. However, this time around we decided to mix it up and think about what a Back-To-School Sale with a bigger vision might mean other than just $25 off a sweet board. Through September 1st, when you buy any Bustin Board you will receive $20 off your order to help ease your student financial pain. In addition, we will contribute $5 dollars to support the Africa Aid School Lunch Program at the Buduburam Liberian Refugee Camp in Ghana to help underprivileged students attain a healthy education. To us, a Back-To-School sale means helping students across the board.

Africa Aid is a non-profit organization that provides the foundation for innovative partnerships and intimate community-based relationships between developing African communities and their more established American counterparts. To create a sustainable and mutually beneficial community partnership, Africa Aid characterizes the problems of an African community and then integrates foreign aid projects into American university curriculum, allowing university students and faculty experts to design solutions to extreme poverty. Africa Aid implements the resulting university designed solutions in Africa, working alongside African communities to establish basic levels of Education, Health, Water, and Economic Empowerment.
Self-Help Initiative for Sustainable Development (SHIFSD) is a Liberian refugee-run organization based in the Buduburam Refugee Settlement in Ghana. In May of 2005, SHIFSD conducted a large-scale baseline education survey to gather accurate information about the general state of education in Buduburam. In reaction to this survey, SHIFSD created an Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) to provide a free education to 150 underprivileged children that were unable to afford school tuition fees. Africa Aid designed and implemented the School Lunch Program which provides a well-balanced daily lunch to refugee students that may only eat one meal a day.
