Brooklyn Blitz 2009 results

written by Mike September 21, 2009

The 4 mile Brooklyn Blitz attracted 40+ skaters and a lot of media. Everyone gathered under the Williamsburg Bridge at 3pm for a pre-race social to discuss setups, exchange stories and mull over simple longboard scene gossip. The weather was sunny and 74 degrees, perfect race conditions. I was surprised by the media attention that showed up. Photographers from a few different local media outlets were sent by their editors. Longboarding is going mainstream! The event was advertised on the Bustin Blog, SilverfishLongboarding.com and Facebook with only a weeks notice before the race. The attendance of riders and press proves the demand for our niche events.

The course was changed shortly before the race because an e-mail was sent to the Bustin shop a day before the race alerting us of police attention at the finish line because we do not have Tompkins Square Park permit for attendance of 20 or more. The new finish line was changed to the base of the Williamsburg Bridge Manhattan side.

The top 6 finishers:

1. Theseus Williams 13 minutes
2. Mark Schaperow  13m 5s
3. Adam Crigler  13m 10s
4. Mike Dallas  13m 15s
5. Jim Soladay 13m 20s
6. Michael Poli 13m 30s

Thank you to everyone who supported this race. More race details coming soon.
