bustinboards: How to design and press a longboard deck in the comfort of your home

written by Mike July 19, 2011

This is a cool video that demonstrates the craftsmanship behind the creation a longboard.  The process is long and tedious  but the final product is magical.  There are dozens of methods used to create a deck but every method requires a mold, veneer, glue and a press, unless you start with pre-fab plywood.  I have seen some of the most ghetto presses you could imagine that actually work – and elaborate, well thought out designs that completely fail.  The best longboard deck takes on many shape changes and modifications before the perfect final product is produced.  Keep this in mind when you take your next cruise.  The magical deck that you skate went through this process and is designed to skate fast.  Shred on.

Hey! So I really love this press and it has inspired me to build one similar to it. I was wondering though if you would be willing to share how you determined the amount of concavity and camber to use. Also, is your concavity a smooth bend all the way through like ) or did you flatten out the center where the trucks go so it would be more like ] except with rounded corners? Any advice you have would be EXTREMELY helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Kourtnie
