Sometimes We Just Get Lucky – Spain Invades Bustin Boards

One day a curly haired 16-year old kid walked into Bustin Brooklyn speaking broken English and asking for sponsorship. My first thought: Step in line, buddy! He had a little quirky smile and a lazy but balanced and flowing gate, and just an overall good vibe radiating from him. It was easy to see that he meant well. We talked a little bit and he asked to use our computer to show us a video. He didn’t say very much. He didn’t have to. He just showed us this video called “Bruno the Kid,” said he wanted to skate for Bustin, and that was that. We had ourselves a new Bustin team rider.

The decision to put Bruno on the “Bustin Team” was as easy as any decision we had ever made. We were releasing the Mini Maestro over the next week, and we just so happened to be shooting video for the release over the next couple days, and we needed someone to make it look awesome. He stepped on the board and it was obvious he could make it work, no problem. Small board, small kid who can ride anything you put under his feet? Okay, buddy, you’re in, let’s see what you can do!

Two days later we take Bruno out on his first session on a Bustin Board, and we pop out this:

Bruno has been a beacon of light in the Bustin family ever since, and not only that, but he introduced us to two other really awesome guys who are now making big impacts on our company and the entire skate community. Enter Perropro, a one-man production company focused on the Spanish longboarding scene. A chance encounter led Bruno to making his first video with Alberto from Perro Productions, which would then lead Bruno to his first sponsorship a week later. That encounter has resonated into a feedback loop which brought Alberto to New York City to shoot his first video in the states entitled “New York Longboard” in which Bruno and fellow Spaniard RA aimlessly thrash the city streets, enveloping themselves in the city vibrations and becoming one with their surroundings. For Alberto, Bruno, and RA, it is clear this comes naturally.

This video made such an impression on us here at Bustin HQ that we offered to bring Perropro out from Spain the next time around and get Bruno, Will Royce, and our NYC local Steven Sanchez together on another video project nearly a year later. The video titled “Evolve NYC” has almost become the most watched video on the Bustin channel in only 2 months, and for good reason. The creativity in both the filmography and the skating is among the best we’ve ever seen. Sometimes, it just all comes together. Call it luck, call it fate, call it hard work…it doesn’t matter. It’s leaving us with smiles on our faces on the daily. We’re stoked!

Right around the time we shot this video, Bruno started telling us about this kid named Toti, a good friend of his from Spain who we “had to sponsor.” At this point, if Bruno said it and we could tell he meant it, we would take his word for it. I remember him telling me something along the lines of, “You have to sponsor him, Jeff. He’s better than me!” haha okay, whatever Bruno, we’ll put a package together. So we did. Sent a few decks and wheels across the Atlantic Ocean to Madrid, where it would be picked up by Toti Bicicleta, the new Bustin wildcard who earned his spot on the team with 15 seconds of video and the recommendation from a trusted friend.

From here, there’s not much I can say but just show you the video.

I can’t wait to meet this guy in person, and I’m pretty set on flying out to Spain to skate with these guys on their home turf in September before my Adrenalina money runs out. I’m so stoked by these guys on every level. Their skating is awesome, their attitudes are awesome, and they just radiate this super positive vibe that really makes an impression on you, whether through a video or in person. They are acrobats of life, doing it with balance, style, and a big smile, and that, my friends, is awfully contagious around here whenever they’re around. Call it luck, call it fate, call it hard work. It doesn’t matter. We’re stoked, and we can’t wait to see where this road leads in the future. I can tell you, it’s going to be one hell of a ride.

Yoface is LIVE – Bustin Longboards NYC

Look close, this is not your average skateboard. The Bustin Yoface is a 35-inch bowl-riding, tech sliding, street skating, olliable city cruiser featuring a comfortable but aggressive concave and curves throughout the deck that add to it’s stiffness as well as it’s pop.  Many of today’s city skaters are finding themselves eyeing bigger, softer wheels, unwilling to give up their double kicks and being forced to add loads of riser pads to compensate for wheelbite.  Enter the Yoface, a world where this problem is drastically reduced by a custom mold with wheel wells pressed into the shape and then further sanded out for maximum clearance over the wheels. In practice, the wells also provide for more foot-locking concave in the tech sliding position than any deck on the market.  The radial tail retains a mild concave outside of the bolt holes and provides for more grip and extra stiffness for added pop.  Proudly made in the USA and proudly bridging the gap between longboarding and skateboarding.  As always, the Bustin Yoface is available to customize through our online Build-A-Board Program as a Limited Edition Graphic or Fully Custom Graphic.  For all the specs and more details on the concept, please visit the Yoface Specs page at BustinBoards.com.

Also, to compliment the new Yoface deck we worked with SurfRodz to develop a brand new Indeesz 159 complete truck.  This special edition truck and custom bushing setup (included and assembled) has been dialed in to work perfectly with the Yoface wheel wells for tech sliding and freestyle skating.  Learn more a the Surfrodz/Bustin Collabo 159mm truck specs page.

What’s the difference between longboarding and skateboarding? The Yoface is Bridging the Gap – Bustin Longboards NYC

Introducing the Yoface - Skateboarding Meets Longboarding

Heads up from Bustin Headquarters – The new Yoface decks are in the warehouse and ready to hit the streets to further bridge the gap between longboarding and skateboarding.  The new deck is scheduled to launch late today on bustinboards.com and is expected to bring about a new age of world peace.   Stay tuned to Bustin  for the in and out specs and check out some pics below for a sneak peak of the new ship.

Stocked and ready to rock - Bustin Longboards NYC

Bustin Brooklyn introduces “The Skateboard”.  The Bustin Yoface is the first deck in the Bustin lineup to integrate the classic skateboard feel–with a twist.

Longboard + Skateboard = Yoface. Get bigger wheels.

Designed with tech sliding and bowl riding in mind and equally serving as an ollieable city cruiser, the Yoface is the first twin-kicked board of its kind. What makes it different from any old 35-inch popsicle deck is that it incorporates wheel wells built into the concave with the addition of a sanded wheel well, allowing you to run larger wheels with less riser while getting more turn without bite. You also get the added benefit of vice grip concave between the wheel wells and the tails. Your feet have never felt more at home.

Where in the world is Solomon? – Bustin Longboards NYC

Solomon here. (Here apparently) I’m getting close to the end of an awesome skacation that started at the beginning of the year. I had only planned on staying on the road for a month but I’m a “go with the flow” type of guy and the tropic temperatures and chill vibes have me still away from home going into the middle of February. I’ve tried to commit to writing substantial blogs a few times during this period. It has started well but then I remember it’s warm and sunny outside and I need to enjoy before I get back on my Brooklyn ‘ish. There will be plenty time to catch you all up when I’m hiding from those low temperatures. Until then… I’m excited to get back to my friends back home and to tackle what looks to be an epic year for my Bustin crew but will have to leave you with this epic video from one of the races along the way, King of Clermont 2012. Cameron Kirkner thanks for another dope edit..we appreciate the love!  -StaySkatin’

Black Friday Deals Extended Through Sunday – Bustin Longboards NYC

Hi everyone.  Ryan here, reporting from our woodshop down in Wilmington, North Carolina.  I’m popping down for just a couple days and make sure we are on track with production for the remainder of the Holiday season.  So far we have been working double time to keep EVERYTHING in stock, including all the new custom boards and the new Fiberglass Maestro V2.  As you can expect, this weekend we took alot of orders and we’re stoked to be putting so many boards under Christmas trees around the world.  However, we’ve gotten alot of emails lately from people asking if they can still get the discount later this week or this weekend.  We’re heard it all, from “I just can’t make up my mind, there are too many options…” to “I’m waiting for my paycheck on Friday…” to “My Dad’s out of town and I wont be able to give him my board specs to order me until he gets back…”  We hear you and have been checking inventory to make sure we can handle your requests.

Long story short, the crew at the woodshop is doing a great job staying on top of the demand across the lineup and, as a result, I think we can safely extend the Free Shipping + Free Shirt Promo through Sunday, December 4th.  Just as a heads up, if we do run into any shortages we’ll update the website immediately.

I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend and is embracing the Holiday Spirit.  Life is short, take time to enjoy your friends and family and your skate time.

Early Bird Custom Deck Special – Bustin Longboards NYC

Since launching the new Customization Program on Friday, response has been overwhelming to say the least.  So much so that we’re a bit worried about holiday logistics.  We are doing everything in our power to keep lead-times on custom boards as low as possible and keep our print shop guys enjoying their jobs.  But Good Art Takes Time. We print custom boards by hand in our Brooklyn shop but our print crew feels the pain during the holidays because most of the orders come in at once after Thanksgiving.  This year we’re cutting them a break and offering a 20% Discount on the First 100 Custom Decks ordered before Thanksgiving Day.  That means unusually huge discounts on ALL of our boards and most likely the largest discounts we’ll give out during the Holiday Season (that’s how much we love our print crew).

Help us keep the peace in the print shop and keep lead times down on the website.  Get your Holiday orders in and everybody wins.

One Love, Bustin Fam

New Graphics & the New Customization Program – Bustin Longboards NYC

I’m stoked to announce that we just launched the brand new customization program and options, including several new graphics, some sweet updates to our classic graphics and the brand new options to customize Ibachs and Robots. Its pretty addictive, be careful.  Holiday is coming, start narrowing down your style.   GET CREATIVE HERE

Also, if you have a fast internet connection and want to see the entire array of new graphics, take a look at this image – http://media.bustinboards.com/images/Fall_2011_Graphics.jpg – One of the first things you’ll notice are the new graphics, including two new graphics from Ishtar Backlund (detailed blog about this coming soon).  You’ll also notice that we’ve stepped up the detail on all of the graphics, now giving you the option for background patterns and such.  As with before, you can still remove the background layers if you prefer simplicity.  Another think you’ll notice is that not all of the graphics are available on the Ibach board.  Because of the Ibach’s sharp drops, there were a few graphics that we just couldnt work out (sorry).  All in all, we hope everyone digs the upgrade to our customization program.  We’ve always been pretty serious about style and self expression and this is the latest iteration.  Enjoy!

Cheers, Ryan

PS.  As with all new launches, there are sure to be a few bugs.  If you spot anything please do us a favor and send it through to skate@bustinboards.com so we can fix it up.  Thanks!
