Hi Kids! I’m a Bearing – By Steve C – Bustin Longboards NYC

So recently I’ve been getting a lot of questions about bearings.  Whats the best bearing?  How fast is an ABEC 9?  Luckily, Steve C has written a very comprehensive run-through of what makes up a bearing and how they work.  Lets tune in with Steve and learn a little something!

Thanks for the insight Steve!  Check out more of his run-throughs on Silverfish!

So when you were saying that potentially the whole Assembly (with having the spacer and washers present)is stronger when done/tightend up, to what degree is this done? Is the nut just nipped up tight to remove play (side to side when held and tested by hand)??

Will, you dont need to be that extremely careful with the nut tightening, but if you want to, drag it for about 35-40 Nm.

If you’ve got spacers and speed rings, you can tighten it until it stops! No need to wrench it down, as you CAN bend the bearing spacers and in turn, crush the bearings. Just tighten it down until the nut stops and there is no wheel play.

Cheers!
