Jessica Corchia is a rad chick. Jess is a slide Goddess and owns a remarkably awesome van. When Annah and I moved to NYC in 2007 we met Jess and gang, the day after Park Race. We called the phone # on the race flier and OG Earthwing team manager Mike D answered the phone. He explained to me how to find Watchtower Hill over a series of phone calls. He said look for skaters, a dog park, and a black van parked on the hill. After much confusion, Annah and I stumbled upon the infamous blacked out van on Watchtower Hill in Brooklyn. We knocked on the back double doors then they popped open, revealing a hoard of skaters in inside the van. Lurk status 5,000. I was impressed. Notable skaters included Michael Bream of Gravity Skateboards/Randal Trucks, Sergio Yuppie, Mike D, Jessica Corchia, Jeff Stevens, Jon Tea, and a few of the OG Gravity crew. I had no clue who anybody was because I was a lone ranger, lost in NYC, without much knowledge of other skate crews outside of my personal skater circle in Michigan – Go Green Longboarding. The internet was also in early MySpace days and the networking was ancient. Just the way I like it.
That day in Jess’s van I learned something about skateboarding which snowballed over time and somehow I winded up sitting at this computer, writing stories about skateboarding and the good times I have had as a part of this incredible community. I have mad respect for everybody who was in that van that day and I am incredibly thankful for that opportunity. Thank you Jess’ van, and everybody in it. Save Jess’ Van.
