This weekend has been forcasted to be rainy and windy. The forcast is spot on. The past few days have been so wet that streets are too flooded for cars, and longboards. I received a few calls at the shop today about riding in the rain. My answer was simple. Yes, you can ride in the rain. water can damage a board and rust your beraings/hardware but there are plenty of products that protect and cleanse your components against the elements. Bones makes a product called “Speed Lube” that will extend the life of your bearings, bushings and bushing cups. We learned a couple drops of Speed Lube will fix a jammed lock mechanism this afternoon. Bustin also carries bearing cleaning kit made by Bones. The kit is simple and effective. Paired with the Speed Creram, the Bones cleaning kit is the ultimate repair kit for a longboard (next to the multi-tool).
Moral of the story, it is ok to ride in the rain. Don’t forget to clean your bearings and lube afterwards because water does affect their longevity. Remember, there is a solution to almost everything longboarding.
