January 2014, Alex Lewis was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He went through rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant but soon after his cancer came back. Doctors found a tumor on his neck in March 2015, not long after the bone marrow transplant.
After the Freestyle Moto X final, we collected ourselves, showered and made the charge to go out in Venice beach. Daniel and Amy had some friends that were nice enough to invite us through their space along with an entire Element Skateboards van full of AAS crew/ athletes. Before leaving the hotel, we notice a partygoer passed out on the bench in the smoking section which happens to be the entrance to the hotel. Dead to the world, we checked for a pulse, we gave him a beer, put a cigarette in his hand, took some photos for posterity and rolled on to begin our night.
Lots of stuff going on so that’s why no one has written anything in the blog. Thurs was a blur with trying to get AAA to come unlock our truck, setting up the AAS booth in the Team ESPN tent, helping out on the moto track during Adaptive Moto and much, much more.
Long, hot days of extreme fun makes me realize why I love my life…because I get to participate in these kinds of things.
0335, thats military time for 3:35AM, comes to quickly and we hustle our way out of the loft. Limo to the Path, Path to Penn Station, LIRR to Jamaica, Air Tran to JFK and onto Virgin Airlines heading to LAX. Club Virgin has a cabin filled with great music, purple and pink lighting to set the mood and several beautiful flight attendents to help make your flight the best it can possibly be. Please keep electronics off and your seats in their full upright positions until the captain turns off the no smoking sign.
Part of the Bustin crew is flying out for our second installment of the Summer X Games hosted by ESPN. We will be in LA from 29July to 5Aug so if anyone is interested in meeting up, let’s see if we can make it happen.
More importantly, the reason we are going out again is to help out Adaptive Action Sports with their booth in the X Fest. The booth consists of information on AAS and showcasing their athletes as well as the events they will be competing in (both Adaptive Moto X and Skateboarding are to be medaled events this year!!). We are looking for volunteers in the LA area that would be willing to help us out in the booth. Your job would be to hand out literature, direct people to the adaptive events, hand out flyers for the events, have some general knowledge on AAS and its athletes. Volunteering gets you credentials that allow you to get in free to both X Fest and some of the X Games! Pass this on to people you know in the area that might want to participate and help out a great cause.
