ROCK TO RAPIDS PUSH –  Sept 1

Team CoSmIC would like to Thank Mike D. of Bustin Boards, Go Green Long Boarding, and all the Grand Rapids Long Boarders for this awesome push event. Team CoSmIC’s day started early out from Rochester Mi. Thank goodness the team voted to ignore the weather forecast for Grand Rapids, which was predicting thunder storms all day. That being said, it was the team’s first stab into the Push Culture. Downhill & skate parks are always dry events. Mike Dallas’ enthusiasm for the event and his Push Culture, which happens rain or shine, made the team say “Why not? Let’s go for it!” The only rain we had to deal with was sprinkles at the start.

Mike gave us all an idea of the push course, a simple 13 miles from Rockford Mi. to down town Grand Rapids. The first couple of miles were mostly flat and lots of fun. A turn west across the Grand River, then a quick 7.5 mile mostly uphill push was no problem for the experienced Pushers. They had a small advantage over Team CoSmIC , which was no big deal. Team CoSmIC had no problem with pushing, usually downhill.

The 7.5 miles uphill flew by. At the top of the hill everyone turned south and the fun really started with a 5 mile run, mostly downhill, into the city. The Team made a great effort for their first Push event.

Team member Jacob D. had never participated in a Push event. He refused to quit. Even a brief run in with a local County Sheriff could not deter him. Jacob convinced the Officer he had to finish the Push event. With a little help from the Sheriff he crossed at the red light, taking him to Michigan Ave. He made a right turn and downhill into Grand Rapids. He did his best to catch up with the older, experienced Pushers. Jacob finally caught up with Mike and the guys who were taking a rest just on the edge of downtown. Mike and the other Pushers took him for a tour of downtown Grand Rapids. Maybe Jacob can describe it best in his own words, “This push was the most amazing event I have ever been a part of”. Jacob continued to say, “The run was the most exhilarating, and at the same time, the scariest thing I’ve ever done. It was tiring getting to the end, but definitely worth it!”

Jacob Dodman, Team CoSmIC, has found his favorite sport is downhill long boarding.(with the big Bustin guys
